Who are we?

At the core of the Better Bloke Project’s mission is the belief that treating yourself as #1 is crucial, enabling men to be positive impacts in the lives of the people they love and provide for.

Our Mission

With our unique approach to engagement and training, the organisation distinguishes itself by being “average bloke led,” meaning that it is run by individuals who can relate to the experiences and challenges faced by the the men we represent.

Whilst we engage with health professionals, these services can often be seen as unrelatable and placed at a distance. The Better Bloke approach helps create an environment where men feel comfortable seeking guidance and support, before taking that step.

Our Vision

In 2023, we lost over 2500 Australian men to suicide - an increase on 2022.

For perspective, the deaths of Australian men by suicide are roughly double that of all people who die on Australian roads each year – we believe this is a strong indicator we are facing a national crisis as suicide is no accident.

With mental health awareness growing exponentially in the past decade, it seems wild the numbers aren’t declining.

With so many services and organisations focussed on the negative side of the problem, the Better Bloke approach is grounded in showcasing positive mental health, normalising the difficulties of a man’s life, and fostering a community where men can connect with one another.

Our People

We operate in the Australian men’s market, engaging with blue collar workers primarily, but not limited to, the construction, transport, and mining industry.

Suicide is still the leading cause of death for men under 55 in Australia, and despite efforts to de-stigmatise the topic, suicide rates hit a 20 year high in 2019.

Men in general are already twice as likely to commit suicide than women, studies show men working in the construction industry are an additional three times more likely.

While majority of female suicide is driven by depression, anxiety and self harm more often than males, men are more likely to be driven to this end by spouse conflicts, legal issues, or employment/unemployment – which is the reason The Better Blokes Project is not depression focussed.
